Mitsubishi Shipbuilding to supply more LNG fuel systems to Imabari Shipbuilding

Mitsubishi Shipbuilding, a unit of Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI), has received an order from Imabari Shipbuilding for two additional units of its fuel gas supply system (FGSS), an LNG system for dual-fuel marine engines, MHI announced on 5 June.

The FGSS units for the LNG-fuelled bulk carriers to be built by Imabari Shipbuilding will be delivered continuously with LNG fuel tanks starting in summer 2025.

Mitsubishi Shipbuilding previously received orders for a total of 18 high-pressure FGSS units, including units for Sweet Pea Leader and Daisy Leader, both LNG-fuelled car carriers built by Imabari Shipbuilding that entered service in October 2023 and March 2024, respectively.

Sweet Pea Leader and Daisy Leader were delivered to the Japanese shipping company NYK. Earlier this year, Keys Bunkering West Japan Corporation conducted its first LNG bunkering for Daisy Leader.

With this additional order, Mitsubishi Shipbuilding will supply a total of 20 units (15 for car carriers and 5 for bulk carriers) to Imabari Shipbuilding.
