Mitsubishi Mulls Pakistan Terminal

Japan’s Mitsubishi Corporation and its subsidiary Diamond Gas International are looking to set up an LNG import terminal in Pakistan, the office of the prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said March 26.

A delegation of Mitsubishi Corporation and Diamond Gas International led by Kimihidi Ando, senior vice president of Mitsubishi Corporation, called on Abbasi in Islamabad the same day and discussed various investment plans in the energy sector including an LNG terminal.

“Mitsubishi is undertaking several joint ventures in Pakistan and is also setting up Pakistan’s 3rd LNG terminal,” the prime minister’s office said.

Pakistan has two operational LNG import terminals at Port Qasim near Karachi and more FSRUs are expected to be developed in coming years as gas demand increases. Pakistan’s LNG imports have been steadily growing as the infrastructure expands. Pakistan's first LNG import venture began in March 2015, with Exquisite on charter from US shipowner Excelerate. The second terminal started operations late last year.
