Manila Power Company, Osaka Gas Plan LNG Fuelled Power Plant, Regasification Facility

Manila Electric Company, or Meralco and Osaka Gas are looking to build LNG fuelled power plant in Luzon, Philippines, according to local news portal InterAksyon.com.

Manuel V. Pangilinan, chairman of Manila Electric Company, said Osaka Gas wants to build a natural gas power plant in the Philippines with a capacity of between 1,200 and 1,550 megawatts (MW). He added that joint venture would include LNG regasification facility or terminal.

"We have to build a regas facility. There is no more gas for that size of a plant from Malampaya so you have to import gas in LNG form," InterAksyon.com quoted Pangilinan as saying.

The news portal stated that Meralco will likely take 60 percent of the joint venture, with Osaka Gas holding the remaining 40 percent.

Pangilinan is hoping the project will materialize in the next three to five years, even as the proposed site has yet to be inspected.
