Korea's KSOE wins LNGC orders worth $1.4bn

Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (KSOE) has picked up orders worth 1.56 trillion won ($1.4bn) for the construction of seven LNG carriers (LNGCs), the Korean press reported on July 23, citing a regulatory filing by the company.

KSOE subsidiary Hyundai Heavy Industries secured an order for three LNGCs worth 678mn won from an unidentified Asian company, with the vessels due to be delivered by the end of 2024. Meanwhile one of the company's other units, Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries, received an order valued at 462.7bn won from a European company to build two LNGCs by the end of March 2024, and a second 420.7bn-won order with a Liberian company for two more LNGCs.

KSOE is a holding company comprising three South Korean shipyards: Hyundai Heavy Industries, Hyundai Samho and Hyundai Mipo Dockyard. It has secured orders worth $16.8bn so far this year, meaning it has already exceeded its order target for 2021 of $14.9bn.
