Korea's HMM takes delivery of LNG-ready 13,000 TEU containership

HMM, a leading South Korean shipping company, on January 24 announced the successful delivery of the first vessel in a series of 12 new LNG-ready 13,000 TEU containerships.

The naming ceremony for the inaugural vessel, named HMM Garnet, took place at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries' Ulsan headquarters on January 24.

In June 2021, HMM contracted HD Hyundai Heavy Industries for the construction of six of these state-of-the-art containerships, with an additional six vessels contracted with Hanwha Ocean. The company expects the delivery of all 12 vessels to be completed by the end of this year.

Once all ship deliveries are completed, HMM's total fleet capacity will reach 1mn TEU.
