Korea's DSME wins $500mn contract to build two LNGCs
Korean shipyard Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering has bagged a contract worth 710.3bn won (approximately $500mn) to construct two LNG carriers, the company said in a stock exchange filing on October 21.
DSME did not disclose the name of the company that these carriers will be supplied to but said that the shipowner is based in the Americas. The carriers will be delivered in 2026.
Last month, fellow Korean firm Hanwha Group said it would acquire debt-ridden DSME. State-owned Korea Development Bank is the main creditor and largest shareholder of DSME with a 55.7% stake. Hanwha plans to acquire a 49.3% stake and managerial control.
