Kogas to Build its 5th LNG Import Terminal

Kogas has selected Seongmun National Industrial Complex in Dangjin, as the preferred site to build its fifth LNG import terminal, it said September 28.

The company is building the terminal to “improve the supply-demand stability of natural gas, marketing, and trading.” The terminal is expected to be ready by 2031 and will have 10 LNG storage tanks, plus offloading and regasification infrastructure, Kogas said, adding that the first of the ten 200,000 m3 LNG storage tanks will be operational in 2025.

The final location will be decided by December 2017 after consulting with various local authorities, announced Kogas. If the agreement is not concluded with the local governments, it will look for an alternative site.

Seongmun is on South Korea's northwest coast, about 40km south of Incheon.

Kogas currently operates four LNG import terminals: Incheon, Pyeongtaek, Tongyeong and Samcheok.
