Kogas, Tata to Develop LNG-Fuelled Trucks

South Korean state-owned Kogas will start a pilot project to run LNG powered trucks in association with Tata Daewoo, it said September 5.

The Korea-based commercial vehicle manufacturer Tata Daewoo is owned by India’s Tata Motors. The idea behind the project is to help improve air quality. According to Kogas, diesel-powered trucks account for 63% of particulates (fine dust emissions) in South Korea and greater adoption of LNG as automotive fuel will help reduce pollution and increase demand for natural gas.

The pilot is part of Kogas’ plan to invest won 1 trillion ($890mn) in LNG trucking, LNG bunkering and hydrogen powered cars. Last month the company outlined its plan to invest 10 trillion won ($8.9bn) between now and 2025 in various domestic and overseas projects.
