KCA Deutag Lands $150mn in Omani Rig Deals

UK-headquartered KCA Deutag has been awarded $150mn in contracts to supply rigs and manpower by one of Oman's "leading exploration and production companies," it said on October 12 without saying which.

One of the awards is an extension to a contract received in 2015 that covers the provision of 420 in expert manpower for customer-owned rigs, hoists and workshops over five years. KCA Deutag has also received one-year contract extensions for eight of its onshore rigs working in Oman.

KCA Deutag added that its T-82 rig had spudded the company's first well in Kuwait, "representing a successful entry for the company into this attractive market." The rig is equipped with key components from its subsidiary Bentec.

"These awards demonstrate that despite challenging markets, KCA Deutag's operational strengths and capability at – and beyond – the rig site, continue to be recognised by our customers," the company's president of land, Simon Drew, commented. "We are also pleased to extend the geographic footprint of KCA Deutag, Bentec and our Well of Innovation Technologies into Kuwait and to take our industry-leading capabilities into a strong new market for the business, as we build out our presence in the Middle East, a core market for the group."
