KBR Wins Oz GLNG Contract

Engineering firm KBR has been awarded an energy efficiency opportunities study at Gladstone LNG (GLNG) by Australian Santos, it said on May 28 without disclosing the value of the contact.

The study seeks to explore opportunities to improve the overall energy efficiency of the plant and reduce CO2 emissions associated with the GLNG liquefaction facility, KBR said. It will assist GLNG in identifying and screening potential modifications to enhance the operational facility through improvements of thermal efficiency while also accounting for the associated reduction in carbon emissions.

KBR said this project will leverage the specialist energy, decarbonisation and process optimization skills of its strategic and advisory consulting team.

The 7.8mn metric tons/yr GLNG export plant is located in Queensland. It is a leading project in the conversion of coalbed methane into LNG. Santos owns 30% of the project. Other partners are Malaysia’s Petronas (27.5%); French Total (27.5%); and South Korea’s Kogas (15%).
