Kansai Electric to Buy LNG from Indonesia

Japan’s Kansai Electric Power Co (Kepco) has signed a 22 year deal to buy one million ton per year of LNG from the Tangguh project in Indonesia, Kepco said in a statement.

Supplies of the fuel will commence next year.

With 37.16% interest in the project, BP Indonesia is the operator of Tangguh. The plant currently consists of two production trains that produce 7.6 million tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG) a year. BP started the first production for the first LNG train in February 2009 and the second one, Train 2, in July 2009.

The plant is expected to see further expansion with addition of proposed third train.
