JX Nippon Starts Malaysia's Beryl Gas Field

Japan’s JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration said October 23 that it has started commercial gas production from the Beryl gas field (in Block SK10) offshore Sarawak, Malaysia in September 2018.

The gas will be supplied through subsea pipelines to the MLNG Tiga liquefaction plant in Bintulu, Sarawak, which is partly owned by JXTG Nippon Oil & Energy Corporation. Malaysia LNG, a Petronas subsidiary, operates MLNG Tiga as part of the larger Petronas LNG Complex in Bintulu. The natural gas will be sold as LNG after liquefaction to its customers, which include buyers in Japan, JX Nippon said.

“The company intends to maintain and strengthen its long-term good relationship in Malaysia and enhance its capacity to raise revenue through its E&P business activity as operator,” JX Nippon said.

Block SK10 is operated by a joint venture of JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration, Inpex and Mitsubishi Corporation, which owns 75% in the project. The remaining 25% is owned by Malaysian state-owned Petronas.
