Jordan is looking to import LNG from Algeria.

On Monday, officials from Jordanian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources discussed with officials from Sonatrach ways of cooperating in energy sector including importing LNG from the North African nation, Petra News Agency reported Tuesday.

According to the Ministry talks with the Algerian side comes as part of the Jordan's efforts to diversify natural gas supply whose cost is much cheaper compared with other oil derivatives.

Jordan's 2014 energy bill reached about 20 percent of country’s GDP, the statement added.

National Electric Power Company of Jordan (NEPCO) has been importing LNG in recent months via the Al‐Sheikh Sabah LNG terminal at Aqaba.
