JIBC to Support Japanese Investment in North American LNG Sector

Japanese investment in North American liquefied natural gas sector will be financed by Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), president of JBIC Hiroshi Okuda was quoted in the media as saying.

With revolutionary technology emerging in LNG development, the bank hopes to support expected gas development and investments by Japanese firms, Okuda said at a news conference, Jiji Press reported.

There has been a rush of Japanese trading houses in the in shale gas production in the United States and Canada in last few years as LNG demand in Japan remains on an uptrend.

Jiji Press also said in the report that JIBC will pay close attention to the future course of LNG development as prices are likely to drop following increases in supplies of natural gas in North America and its exports from the region.
