JGC Corporation to Build LNG Terminal in Soma in Japan

JGC Corporation announced Thursday that it has been awarded a turnkey contract from Japan Petroleum Exploration Co., Ltd. (JAPEX) for the EPC work associated with an LNG receiving terminal in Soma, Fukushima Prefecture, Japan.

JGC will take charge of all the EPC work for the project, excluding work on the LNG tanks and jetty.

The project is scheduled for completion in November 2017.  The terminal will cater to the gas demand in the Tohoku region.

Receiving terminal will consist of an LNG tank (230,000 kL capacity), a dock for ocean-going ships, a shipping facility for coastal ships, an LNG vaporization facility, a shipping facility for tank lorries, and associated utilities.

LNG currently accounts for 25% of Japan's first-generation energy mix, and demand is expected to continue rising, JGC said.
