JDC Secures Rig Extension in Indonesia

Japan Drilling Co. (JDC) has secured a one-year contract extension for its Hakuryu-14 jack-up rig from Indonesia’s Pertamina for work at the Mahakam gas block off Borneo, it said on November 15.

The contract will now run until early December 2020.

The Mahakam block is Indonesia’s largest oil and gas development. Pertamina took over as operator of the project in early 2018, replacing France’s Total and Japan’s Inpex. As part of efforts to limit further production decline, the company pledged to drill 118 new wells this year. The majority of gas from Mahakam is supplied to the Bontang LNG export terminal.
