Japan's NYK orders four LNG-fuelled bulk carriers

Japanese shipping company NYK has placed an order for the construction of four LNG-powered bulk carriers with three shipyards, it said on January 14.

NYK said that Japan Shipyard will build two ships while Namura Shipbuilding and Shanghai Takahashi Shipbuilding will construct one each. The carriers will be completed between 2024 and 2025.

NYK has set a long-term target of net-zero emissions of greenhouse gas (GHG) by 2050 for its oceangoing businesses. Its entire roadmap for GHG reduction, which includes non-oceangoing businesses, will be announced separately and prior its new medium-term management plan, which is scheduled to be released in fiscal 2022.
