Japan's MOL Takes Delivery of LNGC

Japanese shipowner Mitsui OSK Lines September 27 took the delivery of the LNG carrier Marvel Heron, it said the same day. A day before the delivery, Mitsubishi Shipbuilding held a naming ceremony at the Nagasaki Shipyard Koyagi plant of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.

The Marvel Heron is the second of the three newbuilding LNG carriers, that will sail under charter contracts signed with Mitsui & Co. in September 2014 and January 2015. The vessels will mainly transport LNG from the Cameron LNG project in the US state of Louisiana, MOL said.

The carrier adopts the hybrid dual-shaft Steam Turbine and Gas Engine (STaGE) propulsion system, which according to MOL, is an environment-friendly, economically superior design, which achieves a further reduction in fuel costs while minimising CO2 emissions.
