Japan's LNG imports up 8% in May

Japanese LNG imports in May came in at 4.95mn metric tons, up 8.2% year/year, according to the latest provisional data released by the country’s finance ministry. Month on month, imports were unchanged.

The data showed that LNG imports from the Middle East dropped 1.8% yr/yr while imports from Russia increased 82.7% yr/yr. Japan’s LNG imports from Asian sources were down 10.1% yr/yr.
