Japan's LNG imports drop 10% in August

Japanese LNG imports in August were 5.67mn tonnes, down 9.6% year/year, according to provisional data released by Japan's finance ministry on September 20.

The data further revealed that Japan's LNG imports cost 500bn yen ($3.38bn) in August, representing a significant 43% decrease yr/yr.

In 2022, Japan surpassed China to reclaim its position as the world's largest LNG importer. Its LNG imports for the year stood at 71.99mn t, down 3.1% yr/yr.
