Japan's June LNG Imports Drop 10% on Year

Japan’s LNG imports in June dropped 10.3% year on year to 5.55mn metric tons, according to provisional data published by the government July 19. These figures were lowest since May 2016.

Imports during January-June were 42mn mt, down 2.7% year on year. Analysts attribute drop in imports to more nuclear power reactors coming online.

Japan is world's largest LNG importer and last year it bought 83.63mn mt of the commodity, up 0.4% year on year, ahead of China which last year overtook South Korea to become the second biggest importer.
