Japan's JOGMEC, Canada to Deepen Cooperation in Unconventional Oil, Gas

Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC) has signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) with Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), for cooperation on unconventional oil and gas technology.

The agreement was signed by Hirobumi Kawano, President of JOGMEC and the Greg Rickford, Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources, JOGMEC announced Wednesday.

The two parties will cooperate in areas of characterisation of unconventional oil and gas reservoirs, assessment of unconventional oil and gas resources and evaluation and application of latest technology available that provides solutions associated with exploration and exploitation of unconventional oil and gas resources.

JOGMEC has been participating in shale gas projects in Canada and conducting research and development on shale gas exploration and development with Japanese and Canadian companies. Through this cooperation with NRCan, JOGMEC will pursue technological contributions to projects that Japanese companies take part in, as well as to the advancement of unconventional oil and gas development.
