Japan's Hokkaido Electric to Buy LNG from Kansai, Malaysia LNG

Japan’s Hokkaido Electric Power Co on Thursday said it has signed agreements to buy 330,000 tons of LNG for ten years as it plans to start Ishikariwan Shinko power plant by 2019.

The utility will begin receiving the fuel from Kansai Electric Power Co and Malaysia LNG, a part of Petronas starting April 2018. Kansai will supply 200,000 tons of LNG while Malaysia LNG will supply 130,000 tons.

The LNG supplies will cover feedstock for the No.1 and the 569-MW No.2 unit, which is set to start operations in December 2021, a company spokesman told news agency Reuters.

According to Hokkaido, Kansai will procure LNG from its portfolio contracts, while Malaysia LNG will supply LNG produced locally.
