Japanese Marubeni Gets Indonesian Gas Power Plant Contract

A consortium of Japanese Marubeni, General Electric and Indonesian Hutama Karya, has been awarded a Japanese yen 41bn ($36.5mn) engineering, procurement and construction contract for the Tambak Lorok combined cycle power plant block 3 project from Indonesia Power, Marubeni said July 19.

The gas-based power plant, based in Central Java, will produce 780 MW of power and is expected to be complete by 2020.

Marubeni will provide the balance of plant equipment including a heat recovery steam generator and install all equipment in the plant, while the main equipment such as a gas turbine, steam turbine, and generator will be provided by GE and civil construction will be done by Hutama Karya.

With strong economic growth and a rising population, Indonesian power demand is rising. The government plans to develop several power plants to meet the demand.

In Indonesia, Marubeni has been engaged in the 7,600 MW of power plant construction, and owns 1,500MW power plants as an independent power producer.
