Japanese LNG imports increase 4% in September

Japanese LNG imports in September were up 3.8% year/year, at 5.52mn tonnes, according to provisional data released by Japan's finance ministry on October 20.

However, the cost of Japanese LNG imports last month decreased by 44.8% year/year, to 484.4bn yen ($3.2bn). 

In 2022, Japan surpassed China to reclaim its position as the world's largest LNG importer. Its LNG imports for the year stood at 71.99mn tonnes, down 3.1% year/year.
