Japan, Mozambique to Work Together in LNG Sector

Japan and Mozambique plan to sign a deal to work together in the field of natural gas production in the energy rich East African nation.

A high-level delegation from Japan's ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and its private sector is visiting Mozambique for LNG and coal policy dialogue.

Radio Japan said that Japanese National Oil and Gas Company will provide a long-term training programme for government officials in the African nation to transfer the technology of exploration and drilling.

Japan hopes the deal will pave the way for expanding the areas of cooperation and will lead to a stable supply of liquefied natural gas from Mozambique.

Agence de Presse Afrique reports that the Japanese government officials are expected to ask Mozambique's mineral resources to support Mitsui's planned LNG project with Anadarko to proceed smoothly.

Mozambique discovered a large gas field last year with potential deposits equivalent to 15 years of Japanese imports.
