Iveco to supply LNG engines to Indian truck maker

FPT Industrial, a powertrain arm of Iveco Group, has signed an agreement with India’s Blue Energy Motors to deploy the first LNG trucks on Indian roads, Iveco said on July 12.

These LNG trucks, developed by Blue Energy Motors and powered by FPT 6.7-litre engines, are expected to run on Indian roads by the end of the year. Based in the western Indian city of Pune, Blue Energy Motors is a start-up working on zero-emission transport solutions.

Iveco said that the agreement is the first step in a potential long-term partnership to leverage the specific characteristics of India’s commercial transport market. The engines will initially be manufactured in FPT Industrial’s Turin, Italy plant, which specialises in producing this type of medium-displacement engine.

“This agreement is of the utmost importance for FPT Industrial, now and in the future, as we want our leading technologies to play a key role to support the ecological transition of one of the world’s largest vehicle markets,” Sylvain Blaise, president, powertrain business unit, Iveco Group, said.
