Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Council to Vote on Shale Gas Next Week

At a briefing earlier this week, Ukraine's Minister of Energy and Coal Industry Eduard Stavytsky said that Cabinet Ministers had taken into account requirements of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Council in the shale gas contract and that an agreement is to be voted on by its members September 20th, as reported by ForUm.

"Session of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Council is scheduled for September 20. The day before yesterday we held the last conciliation board and came to a draft decision, which I think will be passed at the session of the regional council. At this meeting, we agreed on the issues raised by deputies of the regional council, which were taken into account and incorporated into the contract between the Chevron company and our country," Stavytsky said.

In addition, the minister noted that he expected the Lviv Regional Council to consider the issue at the next session.

"I would not like to go through the adoption of a law that would limit the rights of the community in making such decisions. However, the energy independence of our country is now the main issue. We will find a way out through negotiations between the government and communities," the minister said, recalling that all the proposals of the local authorities have been taken into account.
