ITGI Compliant with Any Turkish Transport Route for Azeri Gas

The ITGI (Interconnector Turkey-Greece-Italy) is totally compatible with any option or transit route which can bring Azeri gas through Turkey, the CEO of IGI Poseidon and Head of Gas Infrastructure at Edison, Elio Ruggeri has said.

"The ITGI project starting at the Turkish-Greek border is fully compliant with any option to transit Azeri gas through Turkey, including TANAP (Trans-Anatolian Pipeline)," news agency Trend reports Mr. Ruggeri as saying in a statement today.

Mr. Ruggeri also pointed out that the ITGI project was the most advanced of all the Southern Corridor projects.

"It is worth noting also other Southern Corridor projects targeting Italy are still in a very preliminary phase and will require significant time for completion," he said.

Last week, Mr. Ruggeri said that construction on ITGI as soon as gas from the Shah Deniz gas field in Azerbaijan was allocated.

"ITGI is the most advanced Southern Corridor pipeline project with all authorization and permission clearances given compared to other projects which are in a preliminary phase, allowing ITGI to start construction works as soon as gas from Shah Deniz II field is allocated from the on-going commercial bid," he said.

ITGI, if successful, will transport 10 billion cubic metres (bcm) of gas every year. Eight bcm will go to Italy, with 1 million going each to Bulgaria and Greece.
