Iraq to Supply Oil, Gas to Egypt, Jordan

Iraq, Jordan and Egypt have signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate in the field of oil and gas, Egyptian oil ministry said in a statement Sunday.

As per the memorandum, which was signed in Amman on Sunday, both Egypt and Jordan will receive oil and natural gas from Iraq.

During a meeting with Iraqi Oil Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi and Egyptian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Tarek Al Mulla King Abdullah II said that Jordan looked forward to the completion of an oil pipeline project between the Iraqi port of Basra and the Red Sea port of Aqaba extending to Egypt, according to Petra News Agency.

The 1,680-kilometre double pipeline will pump one million barrels of oil a day from Basra on the Arabian Gulf to Aqaba Port, and around 258 million cubic feet of gas.

Jordan and Egypt are linked by Arab gas pipeline which was earlier used to export Egyptian gas. In recent years the pipeline has been attacked multiple times leading to regular disruptions.

King Abdullah further stated that Jordan should take advantage of its strategic as a hub and energy corridor in the region, Petra reported.
