Iran’s Annual Demand Reaches 158bn m³

Iran’s sweet gas consumption increased by 8bn m3 to 158bn m3 in the current fiscal year, which will end on March 20,

The country’s raw gas production also stands at 700mn m3/d (or 255.5bn m3/yr) which gives it 70% of the country’s total primary energy consumption, the director of gas supply division at the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) Nasser Ebrahimi told Shana.

According to a document, obtained by Natural Gas Europe in early March, the country’s sweet gas consumption stood at 148.8bn m3 in 10 months of the current year, of which 27.3bn m³ were used in industry (+2%), 68.74bn m3 in housing (+2%) and 50.84bn m³ in power generation (+17%).

Iran has also supplied 7bn m3 and 5.2bn m3 to compressed natural gas (CNG) and petrochemical plants (as feed stock) respectively this fiscal year.

Iran also exports about 9.5bn m3 to Turkey and Armenia annually. Iran has imported 35% more gas from Turkmenistan so far this fiscal year than in the same period last year, with 7.353bn m3 coming in the first ten months.
