Iran to Build Five New Platforms in South Pars Gas Field

Iran’s Offshore Engineering and Construction Company (IOEC) is building five new platforms for the different phases of the South Pars gas field, company’s Managing Director Gholamreza Manouchehri announced this week.

The IOEC had successfully finished 4 other offshore platforms for phases 17, 18, 12-A and 12-B, according to Shana News.

The oil ministry new agency further reported that gas produced at platform A of South Pars gas field phase 17 is scheduled to be fed to the national gas gird in January 2015.

Platform A is in the phase of pre-commissioning and will add 14.5 mcm/d of gas to the gas output capacity of the country by the time it comes on-stream by January next year, Shana said.

Separately, Fars News Agency reported that the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) plans to invest $8.5bn in the Iran Gas Trunkline-9 (IGAT-9) to feed the country's Western provinces.

Managing-Director of Iran Gas Engineering and Development Company, Alireza Qaribi said that construction of Iran Gas Trunkline-9 (IGAT-9) will improve gas delivery in the West of the country and facilitate future gas exports to European countries.

“With the completion of IGAT-9, 10 Million Cubic Meters (mcm) will be added to the country’s gas delivery capacity,” said Qaribi, adding that the trunkline has 17 units of pressure boosting stations.

IGAT-9 (known as Europe Gas Export Line) with 1,800 kilometers length, starts from East of Assalouyeh and passes through provinces of Khuzestan, Ilam, Kurdistan, and West-Azerbaijan and reaches to Turkey’s border.
