Iran Rules Out Reducing Price of Gas it Exports to Turkey

Tehran will not lower the price of gas it exports to Turkey, Iran’s Press TV quoted National Iranian Gas Company Managing Director Hamidreza Araqi as saying on Monday.

Arqui said Iran will not accept any request from Turkey to lower the price. “However, Iran will accept the verdict of the international court,” he added.

In 2012, Turkey applied to an international court of arbitration to help reduce the price of Iranian gas.

Earlier this month, Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh said Tehran is looking into Anakara’s request to double gas exports. However, Zanganeh also said Iran has yet to make up its mind about Turkey's request for the reduction of the gas price.

Iran is currently charging Turkey $490 for every 1,000 cubic meters of gas, Press TV said.

Turkey is importing 10 billion cubic meters of gas a year from Iran and had said that would double its purchase of Iranian gas if the price was reduced.
