Iran Ready to Work With Qatar to Boost Gas Output

Iran is willing to work with Qatar to boost gas output from South Pars gas field, according to Reuters.

The South Pars gas field, divided into 28 phases, is located in the Persian Gulf on the common border between Iran and Qatar. It is estimated that the field contains 14 trillion cubic meters of gas and 18 billion barrels of condensate.

Technology from western countries has made Qatar into a leading exporter of LNG while sanctions have prevented Iran from exploiting its share in the huge gas field, Reuters said.

“Under the present circumstances, we will definitely negotiate with the Qatari side and naturally they will pursue their own interests in recovery from this joint field.” Iran’s energy minister said Tuesday.

However, the minister did not say why he thinks U.S. ally Qatar would want to work with Iran to pump more gas, Reuters reported.
