Iran Plans to Build Five New Gas Storage Facilities

Iran is planning to build five new gas storage facilities to enhance country’s storage capacity, Shana News reported Wednesday.

Deputy Director of the National Iranian Gas Company Abdolhossein Samari told Shana that currently studies are being conducted pertaining to Nasrabad Kashan and Yurtsha projects.

Iran currently has two gas storage facilities at Shourijeh and Serajeh. Samari said that 543 million cubic meters of gas was injected to the Sarajeh facility and 477 million cubic meters of gas was injected to the Shourijeh facility during the current Iranian calendar year.

Serajeh gas storage facility, located 40 km away from Qom city and 140 km south of Tehran, has a storage capacity of 1.5 bcm of gas. The capacity will reach 3.3 bcm after completion of its second phase. Shourijeh facility, located 25 kilometers southeast of Sarakhs in northwestern Iran, can store up to 4.8 bcm of gas.
