Iran, Oman to sign gas deal

Iran and Oman will sign a gas deal very soon, Ali Abdullah Al-Riyami, director general of oil and gas marketing at the Ministry of Oil and Gas of Sultanate of Oman, said.

The two countries have been negotiating for three or four years and very soon we will witness the signing of a gas deal between Iran and Oman, ISNA news agency quoted Al-Riyami as saying on December 8.

“Although an exact date cannot be set, the work is going ahead well and the two countries will benefit from the situation in the future,” he added.

“Cooperation between Iran and Oman in this field is not a new thing and goes back years. We have been cooperating in different fields of energy.”

Alireza Kameli, director of the National Iranian Gas Exports Company, said in October that Iran had already signed a contract with Oman to deliver 10 billion cubic meters per annum (mcm/a) of gas through an underwater pipeline to Oman.

He added that a new contract would be signed with Oman. Part of the gas exported from Iran to Oman will be used for Oman’s domestic use and the rest will be used to produce LNG for export.

"Oman had requested 56 million cubic meters of gas per day from Iran in order to supply its LNG production and other industrial units," he said.
