Iran, Iraq to Sign Supplementary Gas Deal

Iran will sign a supplementary agreement on Wednesday with Iraq regarding gas exports.

As per the agreement Iranian gas exports to Iraq will increase from current 25 mcm/d to 35 mcm/d, state owned Shana News reported quoting an Iranian National Oil Company (NIOC) official.

“Iranian deputy petroleum minster and Iraqi deputy minister of electricity are going to sign the supplement with its duration extended to six years,” NIOC international affairs director, Azizollah Ramezani, told Shana.

“Iran’s gas will feed Iraqi power plants and the contract will benefit both countries,” he added.

In 2013, the two countries signed an agreement for the export of natural gas from Iran's South Pars gas field to Baghdad. The project has been long in the offing but had been delayed over security concerns in Iraq.
