Iran's Housing Gas Consumption Equals the Whole of the EU's

Iranian households consume as much natural gas as the European Union's total housing gas consumption, National Iranian Gas Company's (NIGC) spokesman Majid Boujarzadeh has said.

Although the EU population is tenfold what Iran’s population is, the gas consumption by the country’s households is tantamount to the EU’s entire housing consumption, Shana news agency quoted Boujarzadeh as saying on December 17.

Gas consumption by Iranian households has reached 500 million cubic metres per day during the cold days of winter. That amount equals the consumption of 18 countries recorded by the European Union's total housing gas usage, he explained.

Manoochehr Taheri, director of the dispatching centre at NIGC, said on November 7 that some 202 billion cubic metres of gas was produced in the country in the past Iranian fiscal year, which ended on March 20.

He added that gas consumption stood at 190 billion cubic metres last year.

Iran plans to boost its gas output to 1 billion cubic metres per day within the next 2 years.

Iran’s current raw and sweet gas outputs are around 700 million cubic metres and 550 million cubic metres per day, respectively.
