Iran, Azerbaijan Talk Gas Transportation

A delegation led by Iran’s deputy oil minister Alireza Zeyqami and Director of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) Javad Owji has visited Azerbaijan to discuss the bilateral cooperation in the field of gas transportation.

The Iranian officilas met Azeri Deputy Minister of Industry and Energy Natiq Abbasov who provided an insight into Azerbaijan`s natural gas reserves and gas projects, Azer Tac reported.

He noted Azerbaijan would double gas output to 54 Bcm/year by 2020. Minister Abbasov said Azerbaijan`s proven gas reserves amount to 2.2 trillion cubic meters.

Over the past eight years, Iran has taken 1.750 billion cubic meters of gas from Azerbaijan. Iran and Azerbaijan signed a swap gas contract in 2004 for a 25 year period. Under the contract Iran takes 2 million cubic meters of gas from Azerbaijan Republic on overage on a daily basis and delivers it to Nakchivan enclave through Astara border, northwest of Iran.
