Iran Aims to Boost Gas Exports to 60 bcm by 2016

Iran’s natural gas exports will reach 60 billion cubic meters (bcm) per year by the end of the fifth five-year development plan which ends in March 2016, National Iranian Gas Company’s managing director Javad Owji said. The country currently exports 30bcm of natural gas annually.

Shana News has reported citing government officials that Iran aims at exporting 230 million cubic meters per day by 2025, aiming to boost its share in global gas exports to 16 percent from just one percent at present.

The country has been looking to boot its pipeline infrastructure and plans to build diverging pipelines for exporting gas to Syria, Iraq and European countries. At present there are 34,000 kilometers of pipeline for a strong flow of gas out of Iran.
