IOG Awards North Sea Contract to Petrofac

London-listed Independent Oil and Gas (IOG) has awarded a well management contract for the first phase of its southern North Sea gas project to UK service provider Petrofac, it said on June 1.

The contract covers the planning, execution and close-out stage of the phase-1 drilling programme. The planning stage includes detailed well design, risk assessment and management of well-related regulatory requirements. During the execution stage, Petrofac will manage well engineering, procurement and logistics, assure well construction and integrity, and provide onshore and offshore personnel to support the drilling campaign.

Petrofac and IOG have already worked together on the drilling programme under a letter of limited commitment.

The first phase of IOG's project was sanctioned in October and is targeting the Southwark, Blythe and Elgood gas fields. Production scheduled to start in July 2021. IOG's partner at the project is CalEnergy Resources, a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway, which farmed in for a 50% stake last year.

IOG awarded an engineering, procurement, construction and installation contract in May to London-based Subsea 7 for work on subsea infrastructure.

The project's second phase will develop the Goddard, Nailsworth and Elland fields, also in the southern North Sea, although a final investment decision is not yet in place. Combined, the two phases aim to recover 11.6bn m3 of gas.
