Inpex Expands in Gulf of Mexico

Japan’s Inpex has acquired an additional 2.35% interest in the Lucius and Hadrian North fields previously held by ExxonMobil, it said on February 2. This acquisition increases Inpex’s stake in the fields from 7.75% to 10.1%.

Under the operatorship of Occidental, Inpex and its project partners are jointly developing, producing and marketing crude oil and natural gas from the Lucius field, located in the US Gulf of Mexico’s Keathley Canyon (KC) blocks 874, 875, 918 and 919, and the Hadrian North field situated in KC blocks 918 and 919.

The Lucius field is located about 380-km offshore Louisiana, where the water is around 2,200 m deep. Production of crude oil and natural gas at the Lucius field started in January 2015 while Hadrian North field began production in April 2019.

The crude oil and natural gas produced from the two fields is processed at a production facility offshore with a capacity of around 80,000 barrels/day of crude oil and around 4.5mn ft3/d of natural gas.
