Inpex Bags Licence Offshore Australia

Japan’s Inpex has won rights to an exploration bock off the shore of northwest Australia, it said July 12.

Block AC/966 spans 3,460 km2  of the Bonaparte basin, in water depths of between 60 and 500 metres. Inpex reported it had secured a 100% interest in the project after filing a bid in Australia’s 2018 licensing round.

The block “is a promising area where further hydrocarbon discoveries are believed possible,” it said.

Inpex’s main asset in Australia is the 8.9mn mt/yr Ichthys LNG terminal, also in the country’s northwest.
