Industry Body Urges Australian Government to Open Gas Reserves

Australia can avoid gas supply shortages by expanding operations at offshore and coal seam gas fields, says the Australian Pipeline Industry Association.

Association chief executive Cheryl Cartwright said the Federal Government's energy white paper needed to focus on provision of more access to natural gas reserves, reports ABC News.

"If there is concern about the availability or the price of gas in the next few years the only way to address that is to ensure that those gas reserves are accessed and supplied into the market," ABC News quoted her as saying.

She said that there is no point ensuring that the market is operating efficiently if we don't have enough gas.

“The answer always comes down to we need supply, we need gas to come onto the market," she said.
