Indonesia's LNG Imports May Touch 3 Mt by 2025

Indonesia will need to import at least three million tons of LNG per year by 2025 in order to keep up with domestic demand.

“If we have 3 million tons of imported LNG by 2025, then Indonesia will be secure,” Salis Aprilian, Pertamina’s senior vice president for gas and power was quoted by Jakarta Globe as saying.

Salis said the supply-demand gap for LNG is expected to widen to 3 million tons by 2025 and Pertamina is steadily expanding its capacity to anticipate the trend, adds Jakarta Globe.

Pertamina plans to purchase two large-scale LNG vessels to help meet growing import needs.

The company also looking to construct a floating storage regasification unit (FSRU) with a capacity of 1.5 million tons of LNG per annum in East Java in order to anticipate the declining output from the current productive assets in the province, the newspaper reports.
