Indonesia Plans LNG Imports from Mozambique

Indonesian state owned oil and gas company Pertamina is planning to import LNG from Mozambique.

Senior Vice President for Engineering and Operation of Pertamina Salis Aprilian said the imports would cover shortage in domestic supply after 2020, according to Indonesia’s Antara News.

"Imports are needed to meet fast growing domestic requirement," Salis said on Tuesday.

Without giving any exact figure for Mozambique, Salis said total imports from Africa may reach 1.5 million tons per year.

"With the addition of 1.5 million tons we will have additional supply of 3 million tons a year after 2020," Antara quoted him as saying.

With domestic output declining amid growing demand, recently country’s first LNG plant in Arun shipped its last cargo. Two units at the Arun plant that store LNG meant for exports will be converted into a re-gasification unit to supply local businesses in northern Sumatra.
