Indonesia falls short of oil, gas output target in Q1

Indonesia’s ready-to-use production of oil and natural gas in the three months ending March 31 (Q1) was 1.665mn barrels of oil equivalent/day, some 2.7% short of the target, the country’s upstream regulator SSKMigas said on April 27.

Ready to use oil production averaged 676,200 barrels/day, 4.1% below the target, while gas output came to 5.539bn ft3/day, 1.7% below the target. Seventy six development wells were drilled during the three-month period, the regulator said.

Crude oil production suffered in Q1 because of a higher water ratio in some of the oil wells and investment delays at some oil and gas projects because of the Covid-19 disruption last year, the regulator said.

SKKMigas said it aims to see 14 oil and gas projects brought on stream in 2021. Two of them, Tiung Biru Jambaran and Tangguh Train 3, are national strategic priorities and are set to start production in the fourth quarter. SKKMigas is also looking to approve 39 plans of development (POD) this year. Five PODs were approved in Q1, it said.
