India's Petronet Shortlisted to Build LNG Terminal in Bangladesh

India’s Petronet LNG has been shortlisted to build LNG terminal in Bangladesh, news agency Reuters reported Thursday.

"They called for expressions of interest and we participated and have been shortlisted by the Bangladesh government," managing director A K Balyan told reporters in New Delhi, Reuters said.

The Indian firm will be responsible for sourcing of gas, building and operating of the terminal, which will have a capacity of 2.5 to 5 million tonnes per annum.

Bangladesh has already signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to import 500mmcfd of LNG from Qatar. In January, local media reported that Dhaka will most likely extend the MoU.

Dhaka signed the MoU on January 16, 2011 with Doha for two years, which was extended for another two years till January 16, 2015. The MoU is now expected to be extended by another two years.
