India's November LNG Imports Jump 28%

India’s LNG imports registered a sharp 27.8% year on year growth in the month of November, according to data published December 20 by the Indian oil ministry's Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell.

The south Asian nation imported the pipeline equivalent to 2.58bn m³ as LNG last month, according to the data published.

Cumulative LNG imports from April-November, the Indian fiscal year-to-date, were 17.35bn m³, up 3% year on year.

India's LNG imports rose sharply in the 2016-2017 fiscal year, which ended March 2017, by 15.5% to 24.6bn m³.

India has four operating LNG terminals: Dahej, Hazira, Dhabol and Kochi. According to a document released by the oil ministry June 3, 2016, India’s LNG terminal capacity could more than double by 2022 as existing terminals expand and new ones are commissioned. Qatar is the largest supplier of LNG to India; however other suppliers including notably US ones have contracted to supply there.
