India's June Gas Production Down 3% on Year

India’s gross production of natural gas for the month of June was 2.68bn m3 which was lower by 2.8% compared with the corresponding month of the previous year, data published July 20 by India’s oil ministry showed.

The cumulative gross production of natural gas during April-June was 8.06bn m3, 0.1% year on year. Total consumption in June was 5.1bn m3, the data showed. Consumption in April-June was almost 15bn m3.

India’s stagnant domestic gas production has resulted in large LNG imports. In June the country imported the equivalent to 2.51bn mof pipeline gas in the form of LNG (about 1.86mn metric tons), up 39% year on year, according to oil ministry data. During the first three months of the present financial year starting April 1, cumulative imports were 7.05bn m3, up 19% year on year.
